July is just around the corner and with it we may have an early harvest again. Right now at the end of June the crews are finishing up with canopy management – tying back and topping off the vines, making sure each vine gets enough of sun exposure and nutrients. Napa Valley got so much rain this year that many vineyards just started their watering in June.
We all await veraison, when the grapes start to turn from green to purple. The most beautiful clusters have a combination of both colors as they are on the cusp of maturing.
My favorite time to photograph is in the early foggy morning to highlight the subtle coloring as the grapes start to turn.
